Scalp Micropigmentation For Women

The Treatment

Scalp micropigmentation is often used by women to camouflage thinning hair.

Fast Questions and Answers

  • Scalp micropigmentation’ is essentially the process of having your scalp cosmetically tattooed with tiny dots.  The dots add density to the hair which can help women to camouflage areas of hair loss or thinning hair.  Scalp micropigmentation offers a way to replicate the appearance of thicker hair regardless of whether you have short or long hair.  There’s no invasive surgery, no scarring and no down time.

  • The length of your hair loss treatment will depend on the size of the area that needs to be treated and the desired result.  A tailored treatment plan will be made for you. You will need 2-3 sessions to reach the desired result and sessions usually last around 1-2 hours.  It is a process of building up layers in order to gain a natural and even finish and to blend with your existing hair.

  • It hurts less than having a regular tattoo, and certainly a lot less than a hair transplant. Scalp micropigmentation doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply as normal tattooing.  Most clients feel very little discomfort or none at all.

  • Scalp micropigmentation is semi-permanent but should be considered permanent as it lasts a very long time.  We offer a temporary option.  This means it should last between 1 and 3 years.  We also offer a more permanent option which lasts up to 5 years.  Longterm maintenance is required for both types.

  • Aftercare instructions are given to the client and discussed in detail.  In the following days after a treatment care must be taken to keep the area clean and dry.  This is the tricky part for ladies as you won’t be able to wash your hair during this period.  Apart from that you can carry on about your life as normal, there is no down time.

Immediately after results will be improved.  Our process is a gradual build up of layers so it is not too obvious, giving you an opportunity to get used to getting your hair back.

Scalp micropigmentation and female hairloss

As a woman, it is normal to lose hair. We usually lose around 50-100 hairs each day, often without noticing. Losing your hair isn’t usually something to be worried about, but occasionally it can be a sign of an underlying medical condition.

There are several causes of hair loss in women. The most common ones include medication, stress or even a deficiency in your diet, and it can also be triggered by major changes to the body like childbirth and menopause. Any imbalance in the body can trigger the shedding of hair or an accelerated loss of hair.

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a great solution for many women with low hair density and diffuse thinning. In many cases of female hair loss, including alopecia, scalp micropigmentation can be beneficial and also a blessing, restoring confidence in the process.

Over the years I have seen many clients who underwent alternative hair loss treatments, promising cures but delivering nothing but false hope, leading to more upset in addition to the anxiety the client was already experiencing. Hair loss in women is not as socially neutral as hair loss in men. The effects of losing hair for women can be devastating.

The Dermatography Clinic provides a responsible aesthetic service that is much more than skin deep. If we do not consider scalp micropigmentation a suitable solution to your problem, then we will be honest and advise against it.

Scalp micropigmentation is not a cure, but for those who have thinning or low density hair, SMP is a brilliant solution. Pigment is added between the hair to provide an illusion of density, camouflaging the thinning areas. Providing a similar effect to adding makeup to the scalp, SMP camouflages areas with less hair and reduces the contrast between hair and skin.
