Alopecia In Women The Treatment
Advanced micropigmentation techniques to camouflage alopecia for women.
Fast Questions and Answers
How can micropigmentation help me?
Renée can’t wave a magic wand and make your hair grow back, but she can help you by using specialist cosmetic tattooing techniques that mimic hair where it has been lost or is thinning. As a leading practitioner in this field, Renée can give you options.
What are the options for women?
Alopecia Totalis and Alopecia Universalis are conditions where hair loss can occur across the entire body, including eyebrows and lashes.
Renée can help you regain natural eyebrows using derma graphics whereby the look of the eyebrow is reconstructed by replicating individual eyebrow hair strokes. The lash line can also be redefined as you would with makeup but professionally applied so that it looks subtle and without the worry of it rubbing away. What if I lose more hair or my eyebrows come back?
If you have some hair on your brow, your simulated hair will be blended with your real hair. That way, if you lose more hair there will already be simulated hairs there for camouflage. If your hair grows back it will add to the effect. The same applies to the lash line.
How will the eyebrows look after they are done?
If you have been without eyebrows for quite a while, having them reapplied to your face can be quite a shock to the system. Just as it took a while to adjust to having no brows, it can take a while to get used to having some again. Our process is a gradual build up so it is not too obvious, giving you an opportunity to get used to getting your hair back.
Is scalp micropigmentation a good option for me?
Androgenic alopecia (female pattern baldness) and Alopecia Areate cause thinning of the hair and patchy hair loss.
Scalp micropigmentation is a great solution for thinning hair, however we do not recommend it as a good solution for women with patchy hair loss due to the fact that the contrast of hair which is usually long versus no hair will be difficult to camouflage. If you have Alopecia Totalis and have complete hair loss and you don’t mind a ‘buzz cut’ look then this could be for you. Otherwise you may prefer to try a wig.

A modern way to hide alopecia
At The Dermatography Clinic, we put back what alopecia takes away. Using highly specialised micropigmentation techniques, we can restore the appearance of eyebrows, lashes and head hair for those who are experiencing alopecia.
Although there exists a small number of traditional alopecia treatments for women such as immunotherapy, hydrocortisone injections and minoxidil, these remedies are often ineffective and when they do work, produce only mild and often temporary results. Micropigmentation, otherwise referred to as paramedical tattooing, remains the only solution for alopecia sufferers to provide guaranteed results.
Before considering any treatment option it is important to seek medical advice and understand what’s causing your hair loss, if indeed alopecia is the culprit, and if it is temporary or permanent.
For women who have alopecia telogen effluvium, scalp micropigmentation is a brilliant option. Pigment is implanted between the hair to provide density camouflaging the thin or patchy areas, reducing the contrast between hair and skin, creating an illusion of a fuller scalp and thicker hair, without rubbing off.
Frontal fibrosing alopecia is common among post-menopausal women, usually affecting the hairline and eyebrows. Using female scalp micropigmentation techniques, we can restore your eyebrows by replicating hair strands to match the tone of your natural hair.
Traction alopecia is caused by pulling the hair tight for long periods of time. This can cause breakage and balding and in severe cases permanent damage. Where permanent damage occurs the hair follicles are damaged to a point that hair no longer grows and it can even spread. Traction alopecia is usually seen in afro-caribbean women who wear tight hairstyles like braids and extensions. SMP is a good option for disguising some minor cases of traction alopecia.
We offer a service that is more than skin-deep, helping to restore hair and confidence in the process.
Testimonials
I went to Renee at quite a low point following a diagnosis of alopecia areata after cancer treatment. My previously thick eyebrows had totally disappeared. She was immediately welcoming, calm and very knowledgeable and I liked that her client photos showed a wide variety of faces, skin colours, ages, genders. She listened to my concerns studied my face and photographs and took great care to give me eyebrows that looked like my own. From the moment I left her, I felt so much more confident, and able to go about my life without worry. She is totally professional, highly skilled and is committed to the care of her clients above everything else. Renee is really special, and I can’t recommend her highly enough.
Renée is an exceptional artist — I can’t thank her enough, or recommend her enthusiastically enough. I’ve had alopecia universalis for 4 years now, and this is my second time having my eyebrows done by Renée. I didn’t think it would be possible to improve on the last pair, but somehow she’s managed it! She is kind and patient and really listens to what you want. It’s a huge thing to trust someone with this, but you couldn’t be in safer hands. Thank you so much!
